Located south of the Mississippi border, East Feliciana Parish is home to over 20,000 people and was founded in 1824. Feliciana Parish, named for the Spanish term that roughly translates to “happy lands,” was one of the original founded parishes in 1812 when Louisiana entered the Union. The parish was divided in two after citizens who inhabited present-day West Feliciana Parish complained of the difficulty of traveling eastbound during bad weather seasons; thereafter, East Feliciana Parish was born. The parish seat is located in the city of Clinton and the largest city in the parish is located in Jackson.
