Catahoula Parish

Catahoula Parish, home to over 10,000 residents, was founded in 1808 and is named after the Tensas Native American Indian word for “big, clear lake.” The parish was formed from parts of present-day Rapides Parish and Ouachita Parish. The parish seat is located in the city of Harrisonburg and the largest city in the parish is Jonesville. Catahoula Parish is perhaps most famous for laying claim to Louisiana’s state canine breed: the Catahoula Leopard Dog. The parish houses part of the Catahoula National Wildlife Refuge, a 25,000-acre area of land that is the habitat of numerous threatened or endangered species. Catahoula Parish is neighbors with Concordia Parish to the east and La Salle Parish to the West.

Car accidents can occur at any time, at any location, and they can be caused by a variety of reasons. For example, an inattentive driver can be focusing too much attention on text messaging his friend and not enough attention on the pedestrians crossing the street. But the circumstances that lead to motor vehicle collisions are not always so clear, and it could be tough determining who exactly is liable for the accident and the resulting damages. If you or a loved one was injured as a result of a motor vehicle accident, you should immediately consult a skilled personal injury attorney who can assess the situation and help with the claims process.

Catahoula Parish Motor Vehicle Accident Statistics:

  • Seventy-nine people were injured as a result of motor vehicle crashes, including one pedestrian.
  • One person was killed in a vehicular accident.
  • Drunk-driving accidents injured ten people and were responsible for one death.
  • Two people suffered injuries as a result of an accident involving a motorcycle.
  • One person was injured in an accident involving a large truck/bus.
