Terrebonne Parish

Home to nearly 112,000 residents, Terrebonne Parish is located in South Louisiana, with land stretching deep into the Gulf of Mexico. The parish was founded in 1822 and is named for the French term meaning “good earth.” The parish seat is located in Houma, which has a population of roughly 33,000 people and is named for the Houma Native American Indians. One of the largest centers of Cajun culture in Louisiana, more than 10 percent of Terrebone Parish residents speak French at home. The most famous resident to come from Terrebonne Parish is Ray Authement, who serves as University of Louisiana-Lafayette’s school president for over 34 years, the longest tenure of any school president in the history of the country. The Mandalay National Wildlife Refuge is located in Houma. Terrebonne Parish is neighbors with Assumption Parish to the north and Lafourche Parish to the east.

In 2013 alone, nearly 69,000 people were injured in motor vehicle accidents in Louisiana and an additional 668 were killed. With millions of motorists living and passing through Louisiana each year, these accidents are an everyday occurrence and oftentimes are simply unavoidable. Motor vehicle accidents can involve a set of complex circumstances, which makes it difficult to apportion liability. Only a skilled personal injury attorney can assess the situation, analyze the facts of the accident, and determine who should be responsible for the damages resulting from the crash.
