Morehouse Parish

Morehouse Parish is located in the northern region of Louisiana, sharing its border with Arkansas, and was formed from parts of Carroll Parish and Ouachita Parish in 1844. The parish is named after Abraham Morehouse, a famed Colonel who helps populate the present-day region. Filled with long-standing oak trees and beautiful Spanish moss, the parish is home to a rich agricultural society and an abundance of wildlife inhabiting the land, air, and water. Morehouse Parish is home to over 27,000 residents and the parish seat is located in Bastrop, which is also the parish’s largest city. Each year, Bastrop hosts a “Crawfish Festival” where locals and tourists alike can get their hands on freshly boiled crawfish and what attendees refer to as the “best” barbecue in the state. The parish houses the Handy Brake National Wildlife Refuge and part of the Upper Ouachita National Wildlife Refuge, sharing the 40,000-acre nature habitat with neighboring Union Parish.

Nearly 69,000 people suffered injuries and 668 more were killed as a direct result of motor vehicle crashes in Louisiana in 2013. Motor vehicle accidents happen every hour of every day across Louisiana, leading to catastrophic or even fatal injuries that devastate victims and their families. The circumstances surrounding a car crash can sometimes be very complex with regards to liable parties, and it is imperative for people to immediately contact a well-versed personal injury attorney as soon as they find themselves in a motor vehicle accident in order to protect their rights.
