Located only a short drive from Lafayette in the heart of Acadiana, Breaux Bridge is home to over 8,000 residents and is a part of St. Martin Parish. Breaux Bridge was incorporated in 1859 and is named after Firmin Breaux, an Acadian settler who built a bridge across the Bayou Teche which would later become known as “Breaux’s bridge,” thus forming the town’s namesake. The city is famously known as “la capital Mondiale de l’ecrevisee,” better known as the “Crawfish Capital of the World,” which is celebrated by the World Famous Crawfish Festival held every May.
