Cameron

The city of Cameron, which serves as the parish seat of Cameron Parish, is a resilient city recovering from the devastation of many hurricanes through the course of its history. In 1957, Cameron was nearly destroyed by Hurricane Audrey and again in 2005 when Hurricane Rita struck. Hurricane Ike in 2008 also caused significant damage to Cameron with a 22-foot storm surge. Each time, locals band together to rebuild their beloved coastal city, which serves as a true testament to the enduring and deep love locals have for their home. Located on the Gulf of Mexico, directly south of Lake Charles, Cameron is home to the Creole Nature Trail, an All-American where travelers can spot local flora and fauna, including alligators, birds, butterflies, and fish. The city proudly celebrates the Louisiana Fur and Wildlife Festival each year, which provides festivities commemorating the city and nine native industries, all of which are vital to the vitality of Cameron. Cameron proudly boasts this local event as a three-time “Top 20 Event” by the Southeast Tourism Society. Once in 1989, 2012, and again in 2013.

In 2012, 722 people were killed in motor vehicle accidents in Louisiana and an additional 72,500 more suffered injuries. These car accidents can be unavoidable and they can often lead to debilitating injuries and even death at any time of the day. Last year, Cameron Parish saw sixty people injured as a direct result of vehicular accidents, ten of whom were a result of drunk driving collisions. Car accidents are oftentimes avoidable however, and they can sometimes be caused through a driver’s fault or negligence, such as simple inattentive driving or the reckless act of driving under the influence. Those injured in auto accidents may be entitled to recover compensation for damages suffered as a result of the accident, including, but not limited to, lost work wages, hospital bills, and physical/emotional trauma.
